The IEI  LinkedIn Community of Practice just turned four, and it continues to grow and thrive. We have recently exceeded 38,000 members, and we are so glad that you are one of them!

Thank you so much for being with us, for your continuous participation and contributions, and for your passion for achieving the goal of ensuring all children have access to quality, inclusive education. This community would not exist without you! 

We have seen so many good things going on for children with disabilities around the world and happy to share some of those here in this newsletter.

CIES 2024 The Power Of Protest
MARCH 6-7 ONLINE; MARCH 10-14 ONSITE (MIAMI, FL)
The power of protest in education lies in the fact that it is, by definition, a public act. Protest allows people facing injustice to generate power through collective action. As a community of Comparative and International Education researchers, teachers, activists, programme developers or organisers, how might we engage with, and think generatively about, the histories, curriculum, theories and methodologies, and pedagogies that guide acts of protest? Our hope is the CIES 2024 will inspire debates, dialogues, and future collective actions.

COVID-19 Responses: Supporting Learning, Equity and Resilience to Future Disruptions
MARCH 27-28, 2024
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered an education emergency of unprecedented scale. At the peak of school closures, 1.6 billion children were affected. The disruption caused to education systems set progress back and widened the gap between wealthier and poorer children.This virtual learning event aims to socialize findings of the evaluation of GPE’s support to COVID-19 responses, engaging country and global stakeholders in a dialogue on the key lessons learned during pandemic response and recovery.

The Zero Project Conference 2024: Inclusive Education, and ICT
The annual Zero Project Conference has become a unique global meeting place to innovate for disability inclusion. This year, more than 1,000 people from 100 countries attended #ZeroCon24 at the United Nations Office in Vienna, with innovations and sessions centered around the topics of Inclusive Education, and ICT.

Embracing Inclusivity: Cultivating Safe and Inclusive Learning Environments for Gender and Sexually-Diverse Youth
In this webinar, co-hosted by UNESCO and the World Bank, speakers discussed what actions governments and multilateral organizations can take to promote SOGIE-inclusion in education, the role of local actors in creating inclusive educational environments for sexually and gender-diverse youth, and how SOGIE-inclusion can positively impact the overall educational experience.

Using EdTech to Make Education more Inclusive:‘TEDDIE’ Tool Supports Governments to Cost and Introduce ICT Solutions for Students with Disabilities
The World Bank’s newly developed TEDDIE (Tech-EnableD Disability Inclusive Education Intervention) tool is a practical instrument that can help governments plan and cost learning solutions for students with disabilities. This event, held on February 8th 2024, introduced the tool with a live demonstration and experiences from Mongolia and The Gambia.

Every Learner Matters: Disability Inclusion and Gender Equality in Education
On December 4th, 2023, UNESCO hosted this event  in collaboration with Plan International on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The webinar discussed disability and gender inequality as intersecting challenges to education. It also addressed key topics as comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), bullying and violence, school health and nutrition.

Promoting Access to Education for Students with Disabilities through Inclusive Technologies
The Global Education Monitoring Report and Inclusion International organized a presentation of the key findings and recommendations related to access to education for students with disabilities of the 2023 GEM Report on technology in education. The event looked at how different technologies can promote access to education for disadvantaged groups, including students with disabilities, highlighting promising practices and examples as well as remaining challenges.

INTER-AGENCY NETWORK FOR EDUCATION IN EMERGENCIES (INEE)
Disability-Inclusive Education in Emergencies: Key Concepts, Approaches, and Principles for Practice
This report defines and clarifies key concepts and terminology for disability-inclusive education in emergencies and provides seven guiding principles. Although the principles address disability inclusion in education, many also are relevant for supporting the education of other marginalized or vulnerable learners in emergencies, including girls, refugee and displaced learners, and ethnic and linguistic minorities.

Disability-Inclusive Education and Employment: Understanding the Experiences of Young Men and Women with Disabilities
Phase two of the disability-inclusive education and employment report showcases the lived experiences of young people with disabilities in the Mastercard Foundation’s seven countries of focus (Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, and Uganda). The reports draw on in-depth qualitative interviews with young women and men with disabilities, platforming the knowledge, insights, and expertise of youth as they reflect on school, university, training, and the world of work.
WORLD BANK GROUP 
Use of Assistive Education Technologies to Support Children with Visual and Hearing Difficulties in the East Asia and Pacific Region
Evidence on the uptake, use, and impact of EdTech at scale on participation and learning among students with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries remains very limited. This report presents findings on access to EdTech for children with difficulties in hearing and vision in middle-income countries in the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region using three approaches: (i) a systematic regional literature review; (ii) interviews with 17 actors from the education technology private sector across the EAP region; and (iii) case studies from four countries: Vietnam, the Philippines, China, and Tonga.

Report on Development of Children with Disabilities’ and Parents’ Wellbeing and Inclusion Checklist Tool 2023 - Phase 2
This report describes participatory research undertaken in 2023 as part of the UK-aid funded Disability Inclusive Development programme. Under this programme, Task Order 27 developed a model of disability-inclusive education in selected schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria and the authors of this report worked on the development of a tool to measure how children with disabilities (and their parents) perceive their inclusion in school and society, as well as their wellbeing.
HUMANITY & INCLUSION (HI)
Ensuring Education for Children with Disabilities Before, During, and After a Crisis

This report illustrates how education systems need to become more inclusive for children and youth with disabilities and, at the same time, more resilient to cope with crises and to ensure education in all settings and circumstances. The report’s recommendations intend to guide the strategic planning of development and humanitarian donors, governments in low and middle-income countries, and civil society organizations.
HUMANITY & INCLUSION (HI)
Disability Data in Schools in Emergency and Protracted Crisis
From May 2022 to December 2023, Humanity & Inclusion implemented a research project to identify a practical and reliable methodology to produce data on learners with disability in schools in emergencies and protracted crises. As part of this project, the Child Functioning Module – Teacher Version (CFM-TV) was tested and assessed for programming and monitoring use in humanitarian response. The findings were used to develop an evidence based operational package to explain to education field practitioners and stakeholders what the CFM-TV is, when and how to use it.
