Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is one of the most pressing challenges facing the education system today. In 2023, the attainment gap at age 16 between pupils with SEND and their peers remained stark: 22 months for those on SEN support and 40 months for pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
EPI research reveals that identifying and meeting pupils’ needs is not always consistent or equitable. System fragmentation, delays in accessing services, prolonged absences, language barriers, and socioeconomic disadvantage all contribute to uneven identification and support for SEND across the country.
The government has taken steps to address this through initiatives such as the Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools and by encouraging councils to create more specialised provision within mainstream settings. These reforms aim to make the system more inclusive and ensure that more children can succeed in their local schools.
But what more can be done—and what role can technology and data play?
This webinar will explore how technology and data insights can improve inclusion for pupils with SEND—supporting everything from early identification of need to personalised learning and more equitable outcomes.
The session will begin with a short presentation on EPI’s Effective School Groups Tool and wider work on SEND followed by a panel discussion with audience Q&A.
Speakers will be announced in due course.
