Leave No Girl With Disabilities Behind: Ensuring efforts to advance gender equality in education are disability-inclusive

Policy Brief

GIRLS WITH DISABILITIES ARE STILL DENIED THEIR RIGHT TO EDUCATION

Every child has the right to quality education. This is a basic human right, enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It is also a key component of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our shared global blueprint to achieving a better, fairer, and more sustainable future for all. All children, regardless of gender, race, class, disability, and displacement status, should have equal opportunities and resources to learn. SDGs 4 and 5 lay out interconnected and specific goals to achieve gender parity and equality in and through education
