This Disability Identification Tool Selection Guide is intended to help you determine which data collection tool is most appropriate for collecting data on children and youth with disabilities in your education activities. This is not intended to guide your research design.

This guide is intended for those who have a basic understanding of research design, data collection, the social model of disability, and Washington Group functional domains. Users should also be somewhat familiar with the different data collection tools that can be utilized to collect disability data. 

Prior to using this guide, you will need to determine the key features of your design such as purpose, functional domains, age group, data collection setting, etc. In addition, important considerations such as consent, enumerator training needs, data dissemination, and reporting are not captured in this simple guide.
