Join this knowledge series that will highlight country examples, best practices and new tools to strengthen disability inclusive policies and services.

We will launch knowledge products on disability inclusion, focusing on three important and interrelated topics of measuring disability-related costs, the care economy and childcare. 

The speakers will share experiences from different countries fostering a dialogue on how such evidence can inform broader efforts to advance the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and disability-inclusive social development.

SESSION 1 : Inclusive Childcare and Maternal Employment | September 30 | 9:30 AM 

The impacts of inclusive childcare on the workforce participation of mothers with children with disabilities have not been explored in LMICs. This session launching the report, “Employment and Inclusive Childcare for Mothers of Children with Disabilities”, will share findings from research focusing on three countries in East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

SESSION 2 : Measuring disability-related costs | October 7 | 9:30 AM 

This session will present practical examples of how data on disability-related costs is being collected and used across countries. It will present the methodological guidelines developed collaboratively by international experts with UNICEF and the World Bank and showcase results from country studies applying diverse methodologies. These include countries from different regions and income levels: Georgia, Peru, Nepal, Fiji, Namibia, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and others.

SESSION 3 : Disability inclusion and the Care Economy | October 21 | 9:30 AM 

This session will showcase findings from a comprehensive review of disability inclusion in the care economy, highlighting the barriers to and strategies for advancing disability-inclusive care investments.
